I had been thinking about how to rig up an indicator to show flap position when I saw a message from Bill Boyd to another RV-List member indicating that he had some pictures he'd be glad to share.  Below are the pictures that Bill sent me showing his installation.  Installation looks pretty straightforward and simple so it's something I'll probably incorporate in my project.  I'll have to make some modifications to this design since I'll also be using Mel Jordan's Flap Handle modification that resides in this same area of the fuselage.

Now, many people will tell you there is no reason for any indicator that shows the flap position since you can look to your left from the pilot's seat of an RV-6 and immediately know what position the flaps are in.  They are probably right, and you can still see the flaps even at night, but I like lots of bells and whistles and this fits the bill.

Contact Bill Boyd if you have any questions about this design.

"The photos show the right side of the baggage compartment, just behind the passanger seat.  The position sensor is mounted vertically in the fuselage bulkhead that joins the seat back cross-piece.  My plans are rolled up in the basement, so I don't know the proper nomenclature.  It's bound to be an F-60-something!

The clevis attaches to an aluminum tab which is blind riveted to the flap torque tube arm.  The position of the tab on the flap actuator arm is determined experimentally to allow full travel of the position sensor without binding anything.  Clamps are helpful during this phase of the installation.

The wiring bundle for strobes, tail light, ELT antennas at the top of the photo, the rudder cable is just below that.  I'm holding the side panel that forms the inner wall of the baggage area bent inwards to allow a decent view of the innards". - Bill Boyd
