Tip Up Canopy Locking Mechanism

John has taken a stainless steel piece of rod (about 1.5" long) and cut a grove in it using a dremel tool to produce a clevis.  He then drilled the bottom and brazed another piece of stainless rod to which the spring is attached.

This is much, much nicer than the stock arrangement.

Tip-Up Canopy Release Modification

Moskal7JPG.jpg (38076 bytes) These pictures show the modifications that John made to his tip-up canopy release mechanism.  John mentioned that he got the idea from Dennis Persyk who's ideas can be seen on another page of this web site.

The idea here is to get rid of the handle in the middle of the panel and relocate it so it's at the bottom of the panel.  In doing this modification the action to release the canopy changes from a "pulling" motion to that of a twisting motion.

The nylon mounting block allow for a nice smooth twisting action.  Other than the nylon block, I think all the hardware for this modification is included in the standard Tip-Up canopy kit.
